Election Year 2016

  • The District of Columbia will hold a general election on November 8, 2016.

    The following contests will appear on the ballot for the general election:

    • Electors of President and Vice President of the United States
    • Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives
    • At-Large Members of the Council of the District of Columbia (two to be elected)
    • Wards 2, 4, 7 and 8 Members of the Council of the District of Columbia
    • United States Representative (Shadow Representative)
    • At-Large Member of the State Board of Education
    • Wards 2, 4, 7 and 8 Members of the State Board of Education
    • Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner
    • Advisory Referendum on DC Statehood

  • Eligible voters:
    All registered voters in the District of Columbia are eligible to vote.

  • Where and when to vote:
    You can vote early, by mail or at your assigned polling place on Election Day.

    • Early voting:
      WEEK ONE
      Saturday, October 22 - Friday, November 4 (including Sundays)
      8:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m.

    • By mail:
      Requests for an absentee ballot must be received by November 1, 2016. An absentee ballot request form can be submitted here. Ballots must be received by the Board by 8:00 p.m. on election day November 8, 2016.

    • At the polls:
      You can look up your assigned polling place here.
      Polls open on November 8 from 7:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m.
